City and district councils are responsible for providing solid waste management and minimisation services to their ratepayers, as required under the Local Government Act 1996.

Waste Not Consulting have undertaken audits of domestic kerbside refuse collections, and of waste entering disposal facilities (landfills and transfer stations), providing councils with data and data analysis required to monitor waste minimisation and management initiatives (e.g. kerbside recycling, home composting trials, cleaner production programmes) and help to plan future solid waste services.
